Alex was born in GlenRoy about 15 miles north of Cornwall. He was the fifth child and second son born to Jerry and Emma Legroulx. At age nine, his mother past away from childbirth. Fortunately, the new born servived and it was Emma's dying wish that baby be fostered by the McRay family. Alex was good at math and eventually became a bookkeeper which is noted on his marrage document. The farming life was not for Alex and he ended-up moving to Cornwall by the age of 20. We know Alex was part of the Cornwall Citizen band probably before he got married. The band often played in Central Park and it may have been where Blanche first met Alex

We know he could add four figure numbers with ease and worked for a property owner. Their wedding witness were both from New York state and as it turns out Julia Lozette was born in Moose Creek and probably a school mate.

read more The 1921 census shows the family living at Pitt and First Street with 5 kids. Tweenty years later with most of the kids gone, we find the Legroulx family living on 5th Street. It is also interesting to note that Margurite, their 2nd child, is now married and with husband Ross, is staying with them during the war years.

Blanche was the third daughter of Robert and Charlottie Corrigan of Cornwall. The family was Methodist so she had to convert to Roman Catholic before marrying Alex. Within her first years of marriage her parents and youngest brother moved to Calgary and her other siblings had moved away from the Cornwall area as well.

read more Money was in short supply and Blanche used her furrier and leather skills to augment the family income. At Christmas, the family would receive a "care package" from her sister Grace Christie of Calgary. They operated the Ontario Laundry which was the biggest laundry operation west of Winnipeg.

Tragedy struck the family in the summer of 39 with the drowning of their youngest son Corrigan. A couple of years later, Alex her husband passed away. At 53 she had 2 children under 18 to support since her 2 sons were station overseas and her eldest daughters were married.

At sometime during WWII, the family moved from 301 Fifth St W. to 535 Pitt St. above a restaurant. Blanche suffered from rheumatoid arthritis and eventually moved to Lefebvre in the early sixties near her eldest daughter. In the later end of the sixties, Blanch ended up at a nursing with crooked fingers unable to feed herself home till her death in 1970. She was buried with her husbamd in St Columbans cemetery
